I remember reading ebooks in the middle of the night, desperately trying to keep myself awake while she nursed. I remember my mom coaxing me out into the sunlight of the driveway, promising that it would be good for me and my days-old baby. I remember the family who helped: who held, who cleaned, who sang, who bounced. I remember, and am grateful ❤️
If you have good support, it can be such a beautiful time despite the challenges of sleep deprivation and getting to know this other person and giving up more of yourself! So thankful you had good support and have good memories!
And my mum is always saying the same thing: "go outside and get some sun, Kym!"
Love these postpartum poems! And that you’re jotting down fragments into Google Docs 👌🏼
I just read I’m Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come by Jess Pan. It was delightful. The first chapter about her rock bottom made me laugh so hard, I had to put the book down I was coughing so hard I couldn’t breathe (I also had Influenza A at the time 😅)
Thanks Bec! I think you gave me that idea? I was keeping it on paper or in Google keep but then thought Google docs would be better. As soon as I have an idea or a sentence or whatever I note it down 💛
Oh I requested my library to get that one but if they don't hurry up I'm hunting it down in gosnells 😂 I'm so glad it's as good as it sounds! She's so witty on Substack that I can imagine her book is next level 👏🏻
thanks for sharing a little slice of your life! The last good book I've finished (because I seem to be picking up a lot of really average books lately that I'm not finishing) was Piranesi, by Susannah Clarke. Cooking-wise, I'm struggling to find the motivation to cook, but one of my go-to's is sushi bowls! I've been enjoying doing something creative most days - knitting, sewing, playing music - all things that give me joy!
I love this:
“You fall asleep to the white noise
of food frying
Your head pressed up against
my heartbeat”
Thank you Margaret! 💛
These are precious🤍 and as a new mom myself they resonate so much!
Thank you so much for reading and commenting Amber! I'm glad they resonated 💛 there's lots of motherhood poems here 😉

Thanks for reading and commenting Aimee! Ooh my sister has recommended that book but I'd forgotten about it!
It's so good for us to do something creative, isn't it? I find it so life giving, even if it's the simplest thing.
