Why am I here?

A manifesto of sorts

I believe in God the Father who created this whole world.

I believe all creation shouts His name and sings His praises.

I believe He created beauty, so much beauty. In the majestic, grandiose, obvious parts of creation, like mountains, sunsets, animals and flowers, all bursting with colours and patterns. But also in the not-so-noticeable, little things. Like the way the light hits different parts of my home creating magic or the tendrils of hair on the sides of my daughters’ faces. The beauty in people’s smiles and laughs, eyes and hands.

I believe in God the Son who faced the ugliest the world had to offer and turned it into the most wondrous, beautiful thing of all: our redemption.

I believe in God the Holy Spirit who is making me a new creation.

As part of God’s new creation, I believe I have no other option than to shout His name and sing His praises.

I believe God gave humans an eye for finding beauty. And to enjoy God in this broken life, we must actively search for it and thank Him for it.

I believe that picking up my camera and writing words help me to capture the beauty in this ordinary life.

I believe that sharing that captured beauty helps me to encourage others to look for beauty and shout His name and sing His praises. Lord, may it be so, even here.

This first post has been sitting in my drafts for a couple of months. I was all ready to click publish but then it froze. I tried to duplicate it, I tried to start again. But nothing. Since then, I’ve given birth to our third baby, and life was - is - very full, in the best way. Today, I came back to this post to try again, just one more time, and what? It worked! It’s not frozen! Is this a sign to go for it and actually begin posting on my Substack? Who knows. All I know is that I have many half-written pieces that may or may not see the light of day. All I know is that I love to share my words and my photography, so here I go. I can’t promise any sort of regularity, but if you’re already along for the ride, welcome. And thanks for reading my first ever Capturing Beauty post.
