It's 2005 and the boy in my guitar lessons is making fun of how seriously I take it. Being young and sensitive, I am upset. It's 2009 and the boy and I are in a play together and he makes me smile. We realize the other isn't so bad after all. It's 2010 and the boy I am emailing back and forth tells me that the girl he likes is the one I see in the mirror. It's 2012 and after a tumultuous two years the boy takes me to the ocean and asks me to be his girl. It's 2014 and the boy and I graduate as bachelors. Every Sunday night he drives two hours away to his work, taking my heart with him. It's 2015 and the boy and I go for a walk. He kneels down to tie a non-existent shoe lace and instead holds up a ring. It's 2016 and it's a perfect winters day. The boy and I stand at the front of church and vow before God that we will always love each other. Its 2018 and the boy holds a precious pink bundle in his arms while I lay cut up but oh so happy. We are forever changed. It's 2019 and the boy watches in awe as I push a sweet, squirmy baby out into the world. Two daughters to cherish. It's 2021 and the boy is so so tired, barely hanging on. I try my hardest to light his way and help him see truth and joy. It's 2023 and two prayers are answered by our abundant God. We are in a new house and the boy is cradling our third child, a son. It's 2024 and the boy walks through the door. The daughters tell stories of their day and the baby son smiles at him. I lean into him for a kiss, so grateful the boy is mine.
Margaret Ann silver posted this poem that used the anaphora technique. Someone in the comments linked this poem which used years as the beginning of each line. I read these poems just before bed, so while falling asleep I wrote my own poem with this technique about my husband and I and the life we've lead so far together. Another poem in the dark.
Sharing is Caring Volume 2
JJ Heller recently released her version of the doxology and my two girls and I like to play it really loud and give ourselves goosebumps at the beauty of the Amens. My daughter and I also love to belt out Ellie Holcomb's Where Can I Go? Her new Psalm album is beautiful.
A recent album that I absolutely love listening to is Manna by Chris Renzema. My favourites are Narrow Road, Manna, Square One and Faith!? Especially love the lines in Faith!?: Stepping out onto the water // Not sure if you'll sink or stand // I think fears pretty normal // When you've only every walked on land
This poem about a bad haircut made me smile. I've also recently loved this poem especially these lines: Praise the dimples that deepen when he laughs really hard // A treasure we’re willing to dig for.
I just finished this gorgeous Katrina Nannestad book. I've read two other ones as well and even though they are children's books, reading them brings me so much joy. Silver linings made me cry so much at the end because it was so real and beautiful. I can't wait until my oldest daughter is old enough to read these kinds of books! Another set of books we loved borrowing from our local library are these young reader friendly versions of Anne of Green Gables. The illustrations are amazing!
I live in Boody underwear and clothing - everyone needs comfy underwear. I have their full briefs, period underwear, some shirts and bras and they are the softest, comfiest clothes I own. Just so good.
If you're ever looking for a specific kind of recipe you've got to check out recipetineats. She has the most mouth-watering recipes online but also in her cookbook, which I also have. Our favourites from her book are the chicken tenders, the roast chicken and the slow cooker beef brisket with the yummiest homemade BBQ sauce.
We recently just bought some kid friendly conversation cards and my daughters love spending a meal time answering the fun questions. I got the idea from Ashlee Gadd who has mentioned them before, especially in the Coffee and Crumbs podcast episode on eating together. It's also such a lovely way to learn about each other, including us parents as husband and wife!
Thanks for reading! I hope it brought you a spark of joy. Now that I've shared my love story with you, if you want, tell me how you met your other half! I love a good love story!
Oh Kym, precious poem and I adore this photo montage! It’s so nice to see your face here. Thank you for sharing.
This is so lovely. I love these lines: "He kneels down to tie a non-existent shoe lace and instead holds up a ring"--how the shoelace doesn't even exist but he still uses it as a kneeling ploy :). It's a pleasure to follow the timeline of your love story. Thank you, too, for the shout-outs 💛. I miss the NaPoWriMo prompts--they generated so much for me!
